Lifetime Gifting – Do You Know the Benefits for You?
Lifetime Gifting:
Making gifts in your lifetime to a Registered Charity like ours can save Income Tax, as well as potentially reducing the amount of Inheritance Tax your loved ones may have to pay. Gifting to Registered Charities is immediately free of Inheritance Tax, so there is no need to survive for 7 years for it to be outside your estate. If you agree to use Gift Aid for any donation made from your taxable income, Prickles in a Pickle will also receive the 20% Income Tax you would have paid which is added onto the amount given. In addition, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can reclaim any additional tax via your Tax Return, so this really is a win-win situation!
The other huge benefit of lifetime gifting is that you can enjoy seeing your money put to good use and see the rewards and benefits your donation has made.
Prickles in a Pickle is a small, registered charity that rescues, repairs and rehabilitates sick and injured hedgehogs. Hedgehogs have recently been put on the red list; this is heartbreaking news as it shows how much they are struggling to survive in today’s world. Last year we took in 1182 hedgehogs and had an 80% success rate of returning to the wild. We believe our valuable work is making a difference as our local hedgehog population in the South Hams seems to be doing well. Can you imagine your great grandchildren never seeing a hedgehog in the wild? The UK has voted the hedgehog as its favourite wild mammal – we need to do everything we can to save it.
To grow the rescue and be able to offer better facilities and take in more hedgehogs we need to move to a bigger building as we currently operate out of our founder’s house, and we have reached capacity. The larger premises will also enable us to offer more placements to Duke of Edinburgh Awards students, work placements for adults with additional needs and provide us with the facility to host community groups and schools to visit us and learn about our work and the plight of the hedgehog. We all know that if we can educate children from a young age about wildlife, they are far more likely to embrace wildlife and do their bit when they grow up. Currently we are unable to have small groups visit due to our lack of space and we are not allowed to take a live hedgehog to community talks or schools as directed by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.
We are run entirely by volunteers, and we cover the area from Torbay to Saltash inside the A38 corridor. We work under the guidance of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and help them with data collection and surveys. We have a strong board of trustees and are a well-run charity which is very well respected throughout South Devon and the wildlife rescue community.
